Gold Coast Highway and Toolona Street, Upgrade Intersection

This project will improve pedestrian safety on the Gold Coast Highway at the Toolona Street intersection in Tugun.

The purpose of the project is to provide safer pedestrian facilities across the Gold Coast Highway with increased crossing time at the intersection.

  • Create a safe pedestrian refuge area in the central median, which will be widened and fenced.
  • Change the existing pedestrian crossing to a 2-staged staggered crossing.

Current status

Detailed design of the Gold Coast Highway and Toolona Street intersection upgrade is underway. Additional road resurfacing works are scheduled to be carried out alongside this project on the Gold Coast Highway from Tooloona Street to Wanda Avenue.  Construction is expected to start  in the 2021-22 financial year.
