Gold Coast Springbrook Road, Austinville, upgrade causeway, construction

The Mudgeeraba Creek Causeway on Gold Coast–Springbrook Road is being replaced.

The upgrade includes:

  • a taller and wider structure
  • construction of new pavement on both approaches to the causeway.

Current status

Construction activities are scheduled to start in late February 2026.

Key milestones

  • 2019 – Design completed.
  • October 2024 – $1.5 million commitment towards raising the causeway.
  • March 2025 – Damage sustained during heavy rainfall associated with Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
  • July to October 2025 – Site investigations undertaken.
  • Late 2025 to February 2026 – Service relocations.
  • Late February 2026 – Start of construction.
  • Late 2026/early 2027 – Construction expected to be completed.

Funding

The recovery works are jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

In addition to DRFA-funded works, complementary funding will be used to build the new structure higher on a new alignment to improve safety and visibility.
