Project overview
The department is planning transport improvements along the northern corridor between Herston to Carseldine including Bowen Bridge Road, Lutwyche Road and Gympie Road.
This corridor connects Brisbane’s city centre with surrounding suburbs and supports cars, buses, freight, cycling and walking. With growing traffic and delays, we are investigating ways to make travel quicker, safer and more reliable.
The Gympie Road Planning Program will identify short to long-term solutions to ease congestion and improve transport options along this key corridor, including delivering on the Queensland Government’s priorities identified in the 2032 Delivery Plan.
We are also undertaking a review of the planning undertaken by the Queensland Investment Corporation for a proposed Gympie Road Bypass tunnel, which officially transitioned to us on 1 July 2025.
Funding
This project is a planned investment in the Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program (QTRIP) 2025–26 to 2028–29.
