Kin Kin Road, strengthen and widen pavement
The Queensland Government is progressing design to rehabilitate and widen priority sections of Kin Kin Road (locally known as Pomona Kin Kin Road) to improve safety and ride quality for road users and to reduce maintenance costs.
The Kin Kin Road widening project is being delivered in 3 stages:
- Stage 1 – between Turnbull Road and Williams Road was completed in July 2023
- Stage 2 – between Williams Road and Western Branch Road, design is progressing
- Stage 3 – between Sallwood Court and Turnbull Road, design is complete and construction is expected to start in 2027.

Current status
Stages 2 and 3 of the project required referral under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) due to potential impacts on Matters of National Environmental Significance.
The EPBC Act referral process has determined that Stage 3 is not a controlled action. Detailed design has been completed and construction is anticipated to commence in 2027, subject to the outcome of the tender process.
Stage 2 has been deemed a controlled action under the EPBC Act and is undergoing further assessment. The department is working closely with relevant stakeholders to address these requirements.
The EPBC Act referral process takes time and may affect the delivery timeframe for Stage 2.
The community will be kept informed as the project progresses.
