New England Highway (Yarraman - Toowoomba) Network Safety Planning
The Queensland Government is investigating future road infrastructure requirements to provide a better driving experience for all road users and to reduce the risk of fatal and serious injury crashes.
Investigations will be undertaken on the New England Highway between Pioneer Road, Geham and Harlaxton in Toowoomba.
The New England Highway is a key north-south, B-double approved, freight route from Yarraman to Toowoomba with high volumes of traffic.
This section has been identified for safety improvements due to the high predicted growth around Highfields over the next 20 years contributing to increasing road safety risks.
Safety improvements being considered include installing right-turn lanes, reducing the number of direct highway access points (conflict points), removing roadside hazards, and intersection upgrades in higher risk locations.
We are inviting feedback from road users to help make informed decisions about road safety upgrades.
Community feedback will be considered together with technical data, road design standards, costs, social factors (including impacts on property, environment and heritage) and project objectives when developing and assessing upgrade options. Road safety and traffic efficiency on the New England Highway will be key priorities.
