North Brisbane Bikeway
The North Brisbane Bikeway is a critical cycle corridor for greater Brisbane, connecting the CBD through to Chermside.
We are delivering the project in partnership with Brisbane City Council, and the new bikeway will encourage more cycling, more often, across all ages.
Stages 1 to 4 are delivered by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR), in partnership with Brisbane City Council.
Stage 1: complete.
Stages 2 and 3: completed in late February 2020.
Stage 4: construction has started and is expected to be complete by mid-2021.
Stage 4 is along Dickson Street, Wooloowin from Rigby Street to Price Street. Based on community feedback received, TMR is pleased to advise the inclusion of additional project scope to deliver a dedicated crossing on Dickson Street just north of Price Street. This includes a footpath connection, and a new cycle ramp on the eastern side of Dickson Street southbound.
Further stages of the North Brisbane Bikeway connecting Wooloowin to Chermside will be delivered by Brisbane City Council in partnership with the Queensland Government.
The North Brisbane Bikeway includes priority pedestrian and cycle crossings at a number of intersections. These crossings operate similarly to pedestrian 'zebra' crossings, providing people walking and cycling with priority over vehicles when crossing the street.
The crossings consist of a raised platform and coloured road surface to identify give way areas and the cycle crossing. Ample space has been provided to allow vehicles to stop safely, clear of the crossing.
