Key locations and details of works

Walker Street, Wills Street and Hamilton Street intersection

Works completed in July 2023

  • Updated and refreshed dedicated bike lanes on both sides of the road: included updating and remodelling median on Walker Street side of intersection
  • Line marking updated on Hamilton Street to incorporate extension of bike lane
  • Replaced kerb and channel and footpath on lower side of Hamilton Street
  • Removed right hand filter at existing signals

Kennedy Street and Warburton Street intersection

  • Update and refresh dedicated bike lanes on both sides of the road
  • Update to line marking at the entrance of Townsville Central State School carpark entry
  • New dedicated left turn lane into Kennedy Street
  • Removal of car parks in front of Townsville Central School, to facilitate space for turning lanes
  • Relocate existing wig wag signals

Heatley's Parade and Bundock Street intersections

Works were completed in July 2023

  • Removed right turn filter at existing signals
  • Updated to line marking including a dedicated bicycle lane on the east bound side
  • Updated line marking of the Eden Street intersection – dedicated left turn lane to enter Bundock Street with inclusion of painted chevron island and inclusion of give way line marking
  • Extended the eastern median and refresh of line marking
  • Extended line marking for the dedicated left hand turning lane in to Heatley's Parade
  • Removed existing pedestrian ramp, re-installed asphalt path
  • Installed 4 steel bollards to stop direct access to Bundock Street from retail centre carpark
  • Refreshed curb and channel in front of retail precinct carp park

Old Common Road and Bundock Street intersection

Works completed in June 2023

  • Removed and reshaped existing medians
  • Reshaped left hand turn slip lanes
  • Refreshed line marking including a dedicated bicycle lane on the east bound side and extended down Old Common Road crossing Parramatta Street
  • Updated to pedestrian crossing line marking
  • Installed of pedestrian refuge fencing on eastern pedestrian crossing
  • Removed existing right turn signal filter
  • Updated line marking of the Price Street intersection – dedicated left hand turn lane to enter Bundock Street with inclusion of painted chevron island and inclusion of give way line marking

Rooney Street intersection

  • Removal of left turn slip lane from Dean Street, installation of raised pedestrian (wombat) crossing on left turn slip lane from Rooney Street to Dean Street

Morey Street intersection

  • Signalisation of intersection, removal of car parks outside Pure Events/Remote Area Dive for dedicated left turn from Dean Street to Morey Street, new U-turn facility (city bound on Dean Street)

McIlwraith Street intersection

  • Removal of right turn into Dean Street (motorists will need utilise signalised intersections at Palmer Street or Morey Street)

Other locations – minor works including line marking and median improvements at intersections

Ogden Street/Flinders Street intersections

  • Refresh line marking including a dedicated bicycle lane on the western side of the intersection

Cleveland Terrace/Eyre Street carpark access

  • Line marking for dedicated bicycle lane on the intersection

Oxley Street intersection

  • Upgrade to electrical 
  • Installation of electrical slow down warning signs
  • Update to signage indicating pedestrian refuge island

Leichhardt Street intersection

  • Refresh intersection line marking including a dedicated bicycle lane across the front of the intersection (both sides)

Gilbert Crescent intersection 

  • Removal of right turn on to Bundock Street, new left turn lane in front of Castle Crest Motel

St James Drive intersection

  • Remove existing right turn signal filter
  • Change existing right hand turn a to a U-Turn arrow (northern eastern side of the intersection)
  • Update intersection signage 

Bishop Street intersection

  • Remodel pedestrian refuge island
  • Refresh intersection line marking including a dedicated bicycle lane across the front of the intersection

Chubb Street, Taylor Street and Beaufort Street intersections

  • Refresh intersection line marking including a dedicated bicycle lane across the front of the intersection
  • Central guardrail installed

Evans Street intersection

  • Removal of right turn filtering at signalised intersection
  • Refresh intersection line marking including a dedicated bicycle lane across the front of the intersection (both sides)
  • Refresh line marking on Evan Street intersection on both sides and St. John Street including the extension of the dedicated bicycle lane
