Oakey–Cooyar Road and Oakey Connection Road, upgrade intersection

Investigations are underway for future upgrades to the current Oakey–Cooyar Road (Davidson Street) and Oakey Connection Road (Bridge Street) intersection in Oakey.

Oakey–Cooyar Road provides a direct link between the Warrego Highway and New England Highway and is an alternative route for north-south travel to the west of Toowoomba

This intersection has a complicated layout, high traffic volumes with congestion during peak periods, and a history of crashes. It is used by motorists and heavy vehicles in the mining, agriculture, and transport industries.

The project will investigate ways to improve the safety and efficiency of the intersection for all road users and upgrades to local roads adjacent to the intersection will also be considered to improve connectivity for the Oakey community.

Benefits

  • Improves safety
  • Improves network efficiency
  • Increases traffic flow
  • Contributes to regional growth

Key features

Initial investigations are essential to identify the scope and expected benefits and costs, and to help assess design and construction requirements.

These investigations will inform the design phase.
