Ross River Road, Mabin Street to Rolfe Street, improve safety
The Queensland Government is upgrading multiple intersections on Ross River Road, between the Mabin Street and Rolfe Street intersections.
These works are part of the High-Risk Roads Program under the Targeted Road Safety Initiative that focuses on improving safety along road sections with high fatality or serious injury crash rates. They will deliver proactive safety treatments for all road users, including pedestrians, bike riders, and motorists.

Cross Street/Balls Lane/Ross River Road
- Install U-turn signs and modify signal timing
Mabin Street
- Removal of right turn out of Mabin Street – resulting in right in, left in, left out movements
- Extension of the centre median resulting in removal of the outbound U-turn/right turn lane
- Painted line marking centre chevron.
China Street
- Installation of a concrete centre median
- Removal of right turn out of China Street and removal of right turn into China Street, resulting in a left in, left out configuration
- Extension of centre median resulting in removal of outbound U-turn/right turn lane
- Upgrades to pedestrian crossing kerb ramps
- Painted line marking centre chevron.
Wood Street
- Upgrades to pedestrian crossing kerb ramps
- Extension of right-turn lane stacking on approaches to Burdekin Street/Briarfield Street/Ross River Road signalised intersection
- U-turn at Burdekin Street

Water Street
- Installation of concrete centre median
- Realignment of left-turn lane out of Water Street for improved sightlines
- Upgrades to pedestrian crossing kerb ramps

- Installation of a centre concrete median
