Planning to identify and prioritise road network connectivity and safety improvements to increase road capacity within the growing southern Sunshine Coast area is now complete.
The department has developed an area-wide transport sequencing plan to ensure that future road network connections and upgrades are planned and delivered in a prioritised, systematic manner.
Funding to progress the Caloundra Road, Kawana Way Link Road and Bells Creek Arterial upgrade project through design and construction forms part of the Queensland Government’s Caloundra Congestion Busting Plan (Investment ID: 3582510).

The Queensland Government is progressing with a major upgrade of the Caloundra Road, Kawana Way Link Road, and Bells Creek Arterial Road intersection to deliver significant congestion relief and safety improvements for the Sunshine Coast region.
Early planning is complete for a new motorway link (Kawana Motorway) between Parrearra and Meridan Plains. This new motorway will help cater for the growing population.
The Mooloolah River Interchange Upgrade project will address long-standing safety and congestion issues on the Sunshine Motorway, with the Sunshine Coast experiencing rapid population growth and development.
This project is critical to improving north-south road connectivity and is a key component of The Wave – a broader plan to deliver generational infrastructure for the region.
