Toowoomba–Athol Road between Toowoomba–Karara Road and Boundary Street South, upgrade planning
The Queensland Government has commenced planning to investigate ways to upgrade Toowoomba–Athol Road (locally known as Anzac Avenue) between and including the Toowoomba–Karara Road (locally known as Wyreema Road) and Boundary Street South intersections.
Toowoomba–Athol Road is an important part of the road network for freight, urban and rural traffic in and out of Toowoomba from the southwest via the Gore Highway.
The Toowoomba–Karara Road and Boundary Street South intersections connect the rapidly growing residential suburbs of Wyreema and Westbrook respectively.
The community has expressed concerns about safety and congestion on Toowoomba–Athol Road, particularly at the Toowoomba–Karara Road and Boundary Street South intersections during peak times.
Planning will identify opportunities to improve intersection safety, efficiency and capacity to meet expected transport demand from adjacent and regional development.
