Action 2.2, Action Plan for Walking 2019–2021

Status: Complete

Invest $20 million over four years through the School Transport Infrastructure Program (STIP) to prioritise safe school travel, including active travel, through a variety of infrastructure solutions.

Achievements

The STIP was approved in the 2017–18 State Budget. Since that time, three tranches of STIP have been approved by the Queensland Government:

  • Tranche One approved eight new projects with a total value of $3.05 million
  • Tranche Two approved 29 new projects valued at $7.1 million
  • Tranche Three approved 57 new projects with a total STIP contribution of $10.1 million.

To date, 10 projects have already been delivered across Queensland. Projects delivered include:

  • installation of kerb ramps and footpath reinstallation at Birkdale South State School
  • installation of a children's crossing and kerb buildouts at St Peter's Catholic Primary School (Rockhampton)
  • upgrade of footpaths at Heatley State School
  • construction of a concrete path, kerb buildouts, pram ramps and a pedestrian refuge at Townsville Grammar School (North Ward Campus)
  • installation of supervised school crossing infrastructure at Meridian State College.

Next steps

The approval of the Tranche Three program has fully expended the $20 million budget allocation for the STIP to improve road safety outcomes at Queensland schools.
