Reducing pedestrian wait time at crossings

Action 2.4, Action Plan for Walking 2019–2021
Status: Ongoing
Achievements
Initial investigations, as part of the signal optimisation planning project, found that adjusting signals in corridors required a more strategic approach.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is developing a Movement and Place Framework to improve placemaking within the context of the transport network.
While the development of this strategic framework proceeds, TMR will continue to improve pedestrian safety and reduce waiting times at signalised crossings through initiatives such as Smart Crossings (Action summary 2.8) and via new guidelines on reducing delay at traffic signals.
Next steps
TMR will continue to explore other opportunities to reduce pedestrian wait times in conjunction with the development of a strategic framework.
