Bruce Highway Advisory Council
The Queensland Government has committed to providing a long-term upgrade plan for the Bruce Highway. This includes the re-establishment of the Bruce Highway Advisory Council.
The council will advise the Queensland Government on the current challenges and opportunities, as well as investment priorities for key upgrades along the Bruce Highway.
The re-established council held its first meeting on 18 December 2024 in Townsville. The second meeting took place on 19 March 2025 in Rockhampton, where the council discussed priority upgrades.
Council representatives
The council is chaired by the Honourable Brent Mickelberg MP, Minister for Transport and Main Roads and includes representatives from peak industry bodies, senior government officials and regional Queenslanders.
An expression of interest was called for regional representatives to join the council. The 6 selected regional representatives have varied backgrounds including civil construction, heavy vehicle and transport operators, small business owners and road safety advocates. Districts represented include:
- Far North Queensland
- Northern Queensland
- Mackay/Whitsunday
- Fitzroy
- Wide Bay/Burnett
- North Coast
Industry and peak bodies invited to join the council include:
- Royal Automobile Club of Queensland
- Queensland Trucking Association
- Queensland Farmers’ Federation
- Queensland Tourism Industry Council
- Transport Workers’ Union Australia, Queensland Branch
- Local Government Association of Queensland.
Background
The previous Bruce Highway Trust Advisory Council was operational between 2020 and 2022.
