We're building a stronger highway to keep Queensland moving and support our growing economy.
The re-established Bruce Highway Advisory Council ( //projects/programs/bruce-highway-program/bruce-highway-advisory-council )—made up of industry leaders, regional voices and government officials—is helping the Queensland Government set priorities for future investment.
We’re also improving how we work with industry. The Bruce Highway Targeted Safety Program is collaborating with suppliers and contractors of all sizes to develop and refine a tailored approach to procurement. Our focus is on faster delivery, stronger collaboration and better value for money.
Another milestone has been achieved through the Bruce Highway Targeted Safety Program, with the new and improved Granite Creek Rest Area now open.

Rockhampton Ring Road construction is accelerating, with foundation piling now underway for the new Fitzroy River bridge between Pink Lily and Parkhurst.
The temporary work platform across the Fitzroy River is nearing completion, while the Werribee Street precast yard prepares to manufacture the 312 concrete segments needed for the new bridge.
The Rockhampton Ring Road will deliver a 14.7 kilometre western link of the Bruce Highway, improving safety, flood resilience, freight efficiency and travel time reliability for Central Queensland.

Upcoming projects are also gaining momentum, with procurement progressing for planned upgrades at the Bruce Highway and E Claxton Road and Rickards Road intersections.
Construction has begun on a major safety upgrade at the Bruce Highway and Mourilyan Harbour Road intersection, south of Innisfail, aimed at improving safety, access and reliability.
The project will install traffic signals, a new signalised pedestrian crossing and footpaths, improve on-road cycling infrastructure and upgrade line marking. Once complete, the upgrade will provide safer travel through the intersection, improve connectivity within Mourilyan and support freight access to and from the Port.
Construction is expected to start in early September and finish by mid-2027, weather permitting.

Planning investigations have confirmed a preferred option for future upgrades to the Bruce Highway between Anzac Avenue, North Lakes, and Caboolture-Bribie Island Road, Caboolture. The upgrades include extra lanes and new collector-distributor roads, which help vehicles enter and exit the highway without slowing main traffic. This will increase capacity and improve traffic flow along this 18km section of the highway.
