Fast-track projects

The early start packages are fast-tracked for delivery this year to address immediate needs to improve safety.

Safety first

We are prioritising safety to reduce fatalities and serious injuries, based on the Bruce Highway Vision and Action Plans.

Improve critical sections

Sections with the poorest safety record will be targeted with proven safety treatments such as:

  • install safety barriers
  • wide centre lines and audio tactile line marking
  • intersection upgrades
  • strengthen road pavement
  • construct new overtaking lanes
  • provide additional rest areas
  • improve intersections
  • widen narrow structures.

Bruce Highway Upgrade Program

The Bruce Highway Upgrade Program continues to enhance safety, flood resilience, and capacity along the full length of the Bruce Highway. It began on 1 July 2013 and is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments. Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program (QTRIP) 2024-25 to 2027-28, outlines more than $6 billion of future investment under this program for the Bruce Highway.
