We're improving road safety on the Bruce Highway with the $9 billion Bruce Highway Targeted Safety Program. The program delivers key safety treatments to priority sections north of Gympie with a high safety risk.
We’re delivering a better Bruce Highway with targeted works to improve safety, flood resilience, reliability and capacity.
These upgrades are jointly funded by the Australian Government and the Queensland Government under a long-term partnership to improve safety, reliability, and flood resilience along the highway.

We're building a stronger highway to keep Queensland moving and support our growing economy.
The re-established Bruce Highway Advisory Council ( //projects/programs/bruce-highway-program/bruce-highway-advisory-council )—made up of industry leaders, regional voices and government officials—is helping the Queensland Government set priorities for future investment.
We’re also improving how we work with industry. The Bruce Highway Targeted Safety Program is collaborating with suppliers and contractors of all sizes to develop and refine a tailored approach to procurement. Our focus is on faster delivery, stronger collaboration and better value for money.
We're releasing 22 new contracts to fast-track safety upgrades on high-risk sections of the Bruce Highway between Gympie and Cairns. These upgrades are part of the jointly funded $9 billion Bruce Highway Targeted Safety Program. This next wave of work includes:
We're releasing these contracts through dedicated construction and design panels to simplify procurement and support faster delivery. These are the first contracts to use the panels, and more contracts will be rolled out strategically over the coming years.

Planning investigations have confirmed a preferred option for future upgrades to the Bruce Highway between Anzac Avenue, North Lakes, and Caboolture-Bribie Island Road, Caboolture. The upgrades include extra lanes and new collector-distributor roads, which help vehicles enter and exit the highway without slowing main traffic. This will increase capacity and improve traffic flow along this 18km section of the highway.
