Bruce Highway (Cooroy to Curra) Section D
The $1 billion Section D: Woondum to Curra project is a new 26km, 4-lane divided highway between the existing Bruce Highway interchange at Woondum, south of Gympie and Curra.
This project involves a 62km realignment and upgrade of the Bruce Highway to 4 lanes between Cooroy and Curra and is among Queensland's highest priority road projects.
It aims to improve safety, flood resilience, and capacity along the highway between Brisbane and Cairns. It is designed to meet strategic transport needs of the Sunshine Coast and Gympie regions well into the future.
For construction purposes the Cooroy to Curra project was split into the four sections (A, B, C and D) as we progressively delivered sections A to C over the past 10 years. Four lanes of new divided highway now stretch from the Cooroy southern interchange to the Woondum interchange, just south of Gympie.
With the completion of Section D and the entire 62kms, motorists will benefit from improved safety, flood immunity and capacity on the Bruce Highway.
Section A: construction $490 million (one off 50:50 Australian Government and Queensland Government funding split)
Section B: construction $513 million (80:20 Australian Government and Queensland Government funding split)
Section C: construction $384.24 million (80:20 Australian Government and Queensland Government funding split)
Section D: construction $1 billion (80:20 Australian Government and Queensland Government funding split)
Preliminary planning commenced in March 2014 and was completed in early 2016. Detailed Design began in May 2016 and is now complete.
Joint funding of $1 billion has been provided in an 80:20 funding split (Australian Government $800 million and Queensland Government $200 million) to progress the project to delivery.

Community engagement played a vital part in the development of the corridor for the Bruce Highway Upgrade - Cooroy to Curra project. We undertook extensive engagement with the local community during strategic planning that included committee meetings, public displays, information sessions, meetings with project stakeholders and distribution of maps and newsletters.
Consultation with stakeholders has occurred during the design and construction phases for each of the 4 sections that make up the Cooroy to Curra project.
We welcome feedback on the project and will continue to engage stakeholders throughout the delivery of Cooroy to Curra – Section D.
