Caboolture-Bribie Island Road, Old Toorbul Point Road to Saint Road Frequently asked questions

About the project

What is significant about this next identified priority upgrade?

Caboolture-Bribie Island is a critical 19km road corridor, extending from the Bruce Highway east to Bribie Island. The road is used by up to 48,000 vehicles each day. This upgrade will improve safety, ease congestion, and improve traffic flow and connectivity.

Why does the proposed design include removal of right-turn movements from Old Toorbul Point Road to east of Saint Road?

Our strategic vision for Caboolture-Bribie Island Road is to deliver a 4 lane, 2-way median divided road. The removal of right-turn movements to and from property accesses and side roads where possible, from Old Toorbul Point Road to east of Saint Road, will improve safety and reduce and the risk of high-severity crashes. Controlled access will be provided via traffic signals at strategic locations.

Will there be a right-turn into Saint Road

As Saint Road is a 'no through road' and there are limited opportunities to provide U-turn facilities to accommodate heavy vehicles, we will retain right-turn movements into Saint Road to allow heavy vehicles to access the road from the east. Access from Saint Road onto Caboolture-Bribie Island Road will be limited to left-out only for all vehicles. Following construction, the intersection will be monitored to ensure the safe movement of vehicles at this location.

We will review the suitability of maintaining the right-turn movement into Saint Road upon completion of future stages of the Caboolture-Bribie Island road Upgrade program when a suitable U-turn facility is installed at Hickey Road.

Will there be a U-turn facility for westbound travelling motorists wanting to access the Night Owl service station from Bribie Island?

As part of the proposed design, the pedestrian crossing at Old Toorbul Point Road across Caboolture-Bribie Island Road will have minor modifications made to accommodate a U-turn facility for average-sized vehicles wanting to turn east to Bribie Island. These motorists will be able to turn at the U-turn to access the Night Owl service station, if desired.

Will vegetation clearing be required in this upgrade?

Vegetation clearing will be required to accommodate duplication of the existing lanes between Old Toorbul Point Road and Saint Road from 2 to 4 lanes and road widening for 2m wide shoulders.

Any vegetation clearing will be undertaken in compliance with all legislative requirements.
