Capricorn Highway (Emerald - Alpha), widen pavement

Works are underway to widen 3 high priority sections of the Capricorn Highway between Emerald and Alpha.

As the principal east-west freight corridor connecting the Bruce Highway in the east with the Landsborough Highway in the west, the Capricorn Highway supports general freight, agricultural movements, and resource sector traffic.

The highway also provides access to essential services such as health, employment and education for towns including Alpha, Jericho and Barcaldine.

Current status

Construction started in May 2021 with completion expected in mid-2022. Local road crews from Barcaldine Regional Council are delivering the works.
