Cunningham Highway Upgrade
Planning is underway to upgrade the Cunningham Highway.
Detailed planning is progressing focused on a long term solution to upgrade the Cunningham Highway and Ipswich–Rosewood Road intersection in Amberley.
The Cunningham Highway and Ipswich–Rosewood Road intersection is a key connection for freight and the local community as well as connecting to the main access point to Australia's largest operational military air base—the Royal Australian Air Force Base Amberley. Traffic flow rates at the intersection exceed the capacity of the intersection, resulting in significant travel delays.
The Department is progressing detailed planning, which has taken into consideration a range of feedback from the community received during the 2022 consultation process. This planning will focus on a long term solution, improving safety for all users of this important transport connection.
The cost, benefits and potential preferred upgrade solution will be known following the detailed planning.

The Australian and Queensland governments have jointly committed $20 million on an 80:20 (federal:state) basis for detailed planning on the Cunningham Highway, which will be used to undertake businesses cases on the Ipswich-Rosewood Road intersection and Ripley Road and Swanbank Road interchanges.
