The project involved installing safety treatments to reduce the frequency of vehicle incidents due to driver fatigue.
The Gore Highway is a key piece of the Melbourne to Brisbane inland transport route and a critical link for travel in and out of Southern Queensland, linking with the Leichhardt and Warrego highways.
Cost-effective, high-benefit safety treatments were delivered to reduce the risk of vehicle crashes caused by driver fatigue when travelling long stretches of this highway.

Current status
Construction was completed in August 2026.
Safety improvements include:
- installing audio tactile line markings
- installing raised retroreflective pavement markers to reduce night time crashes along certain sections of the highway
- adding guardrails above culverts
- installing wide centre line treatments
- updating roadside signage
- sealing an existing rest stop area near Captain's Mountain
- removing vegetation and other roadside hazards within the road corridor.
