Mackay - Bucasia Road and Golf Links Road, upgrade intersection
The Mackay–Bucasia Road and Golf Links Road intersection in Beaconsfield is undergoing detailed design for an upgrade.
Mackay–Bucasia Road is a key commuter and freight corridor route for employment, the movement of goods and services, and transport to and from schools and businesses in Mackay. The 11km road connects from the Bruce Highway in North Mackay, and is the only access route to Rural View, Bucasia, Eimeo, Blacks Beach and Shoal Point.
This project aims to reduce congestion and improve road safety on this key connection road between the Northern Beaches communities and the broader Mackay Region.

The scope of works includes:
- installation of metering signals on all four entry points of the roundabout equipped with CCTV and sensors to detect queues and activate the signals to manage traffic flow during peak hour periods
- new short turn lanes on Mackay–Habana Road and Mackay–Bucasia Road (north approaches)
- an additional right turn lane on Golf Links Road.

Current status
This upgrade is an interim solution to address current congestion issues and improve traffic flow. Mackay–Bucasia Road is the main commuter and freight corridor, connecting the Northern Beaches suburbs (Rural View, Bucasia, Eimeo, Blacks Beach, and Shoal Point) to the Mackay Region.
Community consultation undertaken in 2023 provided road user feedback to assist the Queensland Government identify the priority location to address congestion and improve capacity.
