22 new contracts for next wave of safety upgrades

We’re getting on with the job of delivering the next wave of works under the Bruce Highway Targeted Safety Program.

A major phase of the jointly funded $9 billion program is underway, with 22 new contracts set to be released in the first half of the year.

What’s happening

  • 22 new contracts are being released — 5 construction and 17 design.
  • Procurement is through dedicated construction and design panels, streamlining tendering and supporting faster delivery.
  • Pre‑qualified contractors will be invited to tender, ensuring critical works continue at pace while maintaining strong future workflow for industry.
  • Further upgrades will continue to roll out progressively through to 2030.

Delivering safer, more resilient infrastructure

Successful contractors are being appointed progressively, with construction to begin shortly after. Upcoming works include:

  • intersection upgrades
  • rest area improvements
  • wide centre line treatments, including road widening and audio‑tactile line marking south of Miriam Vale
  • pavement strengthening between Maryborough and Gin Gin.

Design contracts will also progress:

  • more than 100km of wide centre line treatments with road widening and audio tactile line marking
  • around 50km of pavement strengthening
  • additional overtaking lanes
  • multiple intersection upgrades
  • 5 narrow bridge upgrades in North Queensland

Brisbane Valley Highway upgrade intersections

The northern side of Camp Cable Road will be widened to allow for a dedicated right turn lane into Edlesten Road, so motorists can safely wait before turning, and through-traffic can continue ahead towards Yarrabilba. Camp Cable Road will have new formalised bus stops on both sides of the road along with an extra 2 metres of shoulder width for bicycle riders.  The existing left turn lane from Camp Cable Road onto Edelsten Road will be relinemarked as a shared left turn lane to improve traffic flow. New Stop signs will be installed on Edelsten Road at the intersection replacing the existing Give Way signs.
