Gateway to Bruce Upgrade

The Queensland Government is delivering major upgrades where the Gateway Motorway joins the Bruce Highway south of the Pine River in north Brisbane.

The Gateway to Bruce Upgrade (G2BU) will improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and enhance safety for road users.

These projects are being delivered under a single Design and Construct contract by the Gateway Connect Joint Venture.

Detailed design is currently underway, with construction expected to commence in late 2026 subject to environmental approvals.

The G2BU will address long-standing congestion and safety challenges along one of north Brisbane's busiest transport corridors, improving safety and travel reliability for road users.

The next priority stage for delivery connecting with the G2BU is the Bruce Highway (Brisbane - Gympie), Gateway Motorway to Dohles Rocks Road upgrade (Stage 2), detailed design project. This high priority project will provide 2 new bridges on either side of the Bruce Highway across the Pine River carrying new collector-distributor roads linking Dohles Rocks Road to the Gateway Motorway and Gympie Arterial Road. Detailed design is currently underway.

The G2BU is part of integrated planning undertaken for the Gateway Motorway and Bruce Highway upgrades, with planning completed in mid-2024.

Each day, around 160,000 vehicles travel between the Moreton Bay Region and north Brisbane on the Gateway Motorway, Bruce Highway, and Gympie Arterial Road.

Significant population growth is increasing travel demand through this road corridor, with current traffic levels expected to increase by around 50 per cent by 2041.
