Road Stimulus Packages
Accelerated funding has been allocated through the following Road Stimulus Packages to increase investment in roads and transport infrastructure as part of The Queensland Economic Recovery Strategy.
A capacity upgrade is in development to complement the planned Proserpine-Shute Harbour Road Upgrade between Valley Drive to Tropic Road.
Proserpine-Shute Harbour Road is the sole arterial road connecting the Bruce Highway and Proserpine to the Whitsunday townships of Cannonvale, Airlie Beach, Jubilee Pocket, and the port of Shute Harbour.
This section of the road has an average of 26,640 traffic movements a day and has a history of road crashes.
This project will widen Proserpine-Shute Harbour Road from Valley Drive to Tropic Road, install intersection improvements at Valley Drive, and signalised the intersection at MacArthur Drive and William Murray Drive.
This proposed upgrade will improve traffic flow and improve safety for all road users, addressing current challenges and ensuring the road can meet future demand. These improvements will deliver long term benefits for the community and support the region’s growth.
The project is fully funded by the Queensland Government and is a planned investment.
Investment ID 1197433
The project is currently in the Planning phase for detailed design.
Scope, cost and timing is subject to further project development, site investigations, market engagement and consideration.
