Bruce Highway Planning Project Pine River to Caloundra Road Interchange

Overview:

Planning project to investigate and prioritise upgrades to the Bruce Highway between the Pine River and the Caloundra Road interchange.

Location:

Bruce Highway between the Pine River and the Caloundra Road interchange.

Funding:

  • $8 million from the Australian ($6.4 million) and Queensland ($1.6 million) governments for the planning project.
  • $2 million from the Australian ($1.6 million) and Queensland ($0.4 million) governments for additional planning between the Deception Bay Road and Caboolture-Bribie Island Road interchanges. 
  • $105 million from the Australian ($84 million) and Queensland ($21 million) governments for delivery of the Bruce Highway Upgrade - Smart Motorways Stage 2 project. 
  • $662.5 million from the Australian ($530 million) and Queensland ($132.5 million) governments for delivery of the Bruce Highway Upgrade - Caboolture-Bribie Island Road Interchange to Steve Irwin Way (Exit 163). 
  • $150 million from the Australian ($120 million) and Queensland ($30 million) governments for delivery of the Bruce Highway Upgrade - Deception Bay Road Interchange.

Project info

The planning project is investigating and prioritising upgrade works to increase safety, ease congestion and improve flood immunity for the 60km link of the Bruce Highway between the Pine River and the Caloundra Road interchange.

Preliminary planning for majority of the highway link between the Pine River and Caloundra Road has been completed.

Three projects have been identified as priorities for delivery, with funding committed to progress to construction:

  1. Bruce Highway Upgrade - Smart Motorways Stage 2: delivering Smart Motorways technology between the Pine River and Caloundra Road. The business case is scheduled for completion in early 2020 and will be followed by detailed design. Construction is scheduled to start in mid-2021.
  2. Bruce Highway Upgrade - Caboolture-Bribie Island Road to Steve Irwin Way (Exit 163):  Upgrading and widening the Bruce Highway from 4 to 6 lanes between Caboolture-Bribie Island Road and Steve Irwin Way (Exit 163). The business case is complete and detailed design is underway. Construction is scheduled to start in mid-2020.
  3. Bruce Highway Upgrade - Deception Bay Road Interchange: upgrading the Bruce Highway and Deception Bay Road interchange, including upgrading 2 signalised intersections on Deception Bay Road. The business case is complete and detailed design is underway. Construction is scheduled to start in mid-2020.

An additional $2 million was allocated in November 2018 to undertake further planning on the 10-kilometre link between Deception Bay Road and Caboolture-Bribie Island Road ($1.6 million for the Australian Government and $0.4 million from the Queensland Government). This planning is due to be completed in mid-2020.
