Major Transport Projects—Gold Coast
Delivering major transport projects on the Gold Coast.
Gold Coast Light Rail Extension
The Gold Coast Light Rail network is set to expand, with a 3.2km line extension connecting the Gold Coast University Hospital in Southport to the Harbour Town shopping precinct in Biggera Waters. The extension will run along Labrador-Carrara Road (Olsen Avenue) and Hope Island Road (Oxley Drive).
The extension will include 3 new stations:
- Musgrave Avenue to improve access to Southport Sharks Club and the Gold Coast Hockey Centre
- Labrador
- Biggera Waters to improve access to Harbour Town Shopping complex.
More light rail vehicles and depot upgrades will help keep services running smoothly.
Construction will be planned to minimise impacts to the local community and maintain access to the Gold Coast University Hospital at all times.

Southern Gold Coast metro-style services (GC Surfer)
The GC Surfer will be a metro-style service running frequently from Robina to Coolangatta via Burleigh Heads and the Gold Coast Airport.
It’s backed by priority intersection upgrades along the Gold Coast Highway in Palm Beach and Bilinga, a new interchange at Gold Coast Airport and service running west of Burleigh to Varsity Lakes and Robina.
The modern vehicles will combine the space and accessibility of light rail with the flexibility of a bus, making it easier for more people to travel.
