Booral Road and Boundary Road (Urangan), intersection upgrade
Stage 1 works are underway for an upgrade of the Booral Road and Boundary Road intersection at Urangan.
The Fraser Coast region is experiencing significant growth, with its population projected to increase from 118,505 to 151,700 over the next 25 years.
This growth is driven by an influx of retirees and new families, alongside the expansion of industries such as advanced manufacturing, construction, and tourism. As the region evolves, so too do the travel patterns and transport expectations of residents, visitors, and workers.
To address these changes, the Department and Fraser Coast Regional Council are collaborating to develop the Fraser Coast Integrated Transport Strategy.
This strategy aims to enhance connectivity, maintain liveability, and support population and economic growth by identifying and prioritising transport initiatives for the Fraser Coast local government area.
The strategy will guide future transport and land use decisions by addressing current constraints and planning for all transport modes, including freight, passenger, public, and active transport to 2050. It will focus on short, medium, and long-term initiatives to meet the region’s evolving needs.
The project is funded by the Queensland Government and Fraser Coast Regional Council with a total budget of $1.1 million.
Investment ID: 2274126
Funding is split 50:50 across Fraser Coast Integrated Transport Strategy and Fraser Coast Transport Model projects. Investment ID: 1889168 (QTRIP 2021-22 to 2024-25).
Current status
Planning is currently underway and expected to be completed in early 2026.
Community engagement was conducted over a 6-week period between March and April 2025. This engagement aimed to identify future transport priorities, with a particular focus on improving movement and access for pedestrians, bike riders, and users of personal mobility devices within the Fraser Coast local government area.
During this period, more than 1250 community responses were received. This valuable feedback has informed our understanding of how people navigate the region and the barriers they face.
The findings from the community engagement, combined with current land use and transport studies for the Fraser Coast, highlight a diverse range of transport needs. These insights have revealed many options to address these needs and improve connectivity across the region. The next stage of engagement focuses on the specific needs of key stakeholder groups. Following this we will release the draft transport strategy for public feedback.
To ensure the strategy remains relevant and responsive to emerging challenges, we are committed to conducting 5-yearly reviews of the strategy through to 2050. This regular revision will allow the strategy to adapt to the regions evolving transport and demands and priorities.
