Approved Person Scheme

The Approved Person Scheme accredits suitably qualified and experienced individuals to inspect and certify vehicle modifications for light vehicles and/or heavy vehicles to ensure that vehicles comply with vehicle standards, guidelines and relevant approved codes of practice. Making an application

If you decide to make an application to become an approved person, you will be assessed on your industry experience and qualifications and your suitability to perform the functions of an approved person. Adding modification codes to your accreditation

If you want to add an additional modification code to your approved person accreditation, you need to demonstrate that you have industry experience and qualifications for the additional modification codes that you are applying for. Purchasing modification certificates and modification plates

As an approved person, you will need modification certificate books and modification plates to finalise the certification of a modified vehicle. Read more about purchasing modification certificate books and modification plates.

Approved person responsibilities

Every approved person has legal responsibilities they must exercise with due care and diligence. These responsibilities may be found in legislation, your conditions of accreditation and the approved codes of practice. Read more about the responsibilities of an approved person.

Approved person spot checks

Transport and Main Roads regularly conduct spot checks on approved persons to monitor their performance and to ensure compliance with the conditions of their accreditation. Read more about approved person spot checks.

Scheme advice, changes and updates

We regularly review the performance of approved persons and consider your feedback to improve the scheme. This may lead to changes to the approved person scheme and advice provided to approved persons. We recommend that you regularly check the advice to approved persons and changes to the approved person scheme.

Renewing your accreditation

Your approved person accreditation is granted for a period of up to three years. To continue your accreditation, you are required to renew your approved person accreditation. Read more about renewing your approved person accreditation.

Changing your personal details

If your details have changed you must notify the Approved Person Scheme Administrator within 14 days. Read more about changing your personal details.

Replacing your approved person accreditation document

If your approved person accreditation document is damaged, lost or stolen, you must organise a replacement within 14 days. Read more about replacing your approved person accreditation document.

Surrendering your approved person accreditation
