Pacific Motorway M1 Interchange upgrades

We are planning for short and long-term upgrades of various interchanges on the Pacific Motorway (M1), including Exit 38 (Yatala North), Exit 41 (Yatala South), Exit 45 (Ormeau) and Exit 49 (Pimpama).

We are aware of the ongoing rapid industrial and residential development in the northern Gold Coast area that is adding pressure to already busy M1 interchanges.

The current status of transport planning for the interchange upgrades is:

  • Exit 38 (Yatala North) – Business case approved in November 2018, planning underway
  • Exit 41 (Yatala South) – Currently in design phase
  • Exit 45 (Ormeau) – Business case and estimate for Stage 1 is expected in late September 2020
  • Exit 49 (Pimpama) – Business case approved July 2020

  • Increases capacity
  • Improves safety
  • Better road access
  • Contributes to regional growth
  • Improves ride quality

Key features

  • Improved motorist safety by reducing queuing on the M1
  • Improved traffic flow through the interchange
  • Improved reliability of access conditions for freight movements and transit times for all motorway users
