Overview

Action 2.10: Promote bicycle riding as part of health and wellbeing communications and campaigns such as Healthier. Happier.

Lead agency: Health and Wellbeing Queensland

Status: Complete

Achievements

Throughout 2021 and 2022, we regularly shared bike riding related content and messages via our social media platforms, direct newsletters and websites, including the Boost Your Healthy website.

This included Bicycle Queensland's Women on Bikes and HER Ride Mountain Bike campaigns, and Department of Tourism, Innovation and Sport (Sport and Recreation) bike riding news and activities.

In addition to information sharing, we also supported:

  • 57 women and girls to take up or continue bicycle riding in a nurturing and friendly environment through funding the Bicyclette women's cycling program
  • TRACTION to expand its Bicycle Build program to include content on nutrition, to enhance support for disadvantaged young people in Yarrabilba.

Next steps

We will:

  • continue sharing information on our social and digital platforms and sponsoring events to encourage bike riding across all age groups and locations
  • identify other ways to work with government to get more people physically active.
