Lead agency: Department of Tourism, Innovation and Sport

Status: Complete

Achievements

Through our sport and recreation sponsorship agreements, we provided approximately $75,000 in sponsorship to support events promoting bike riding.

We sponsored:

  • Kooralbyn Valley Mountain Bike Club Inc. to deliver the Oceania Downhill Championships in March 2022. The event had around 200 competitors and many of the riders stayed locally at the resort or close by in the Scenic Rim. Around a third of the riders came from interstate and the club received great feedback from the officials, competitors and spectators.
  • Kobai Group Pty Limited to deliver five Bicyclette workshops to women new to bike riding between July 2021 and November 2022. The workshops included practical knowledge and skills in bike riding, bike maintenance, nutrition, yoga and meditation.
  • Bundaberg Amateur Cycling Club's annual Bundaberg Cycling Spectacular in November 2021 and November 2022. The Spectacular had a full program of top line riders starting with elites, followed by Masters and Juniors.
  • Somerset Regional Council to assist with the Somerset Rail Trail Fun Run or Ride in July 2022. The event encouraged participants to run or walk 3km or 8km or ride a bike 20km. It was a successful event with 194 registrations in the bike ride, a 60 per cent increase from 2021.
