Promoting bike riding routes and nearby destinations can improve awareness and encourage people to ride.

Overview

Action 2.14: Deliver a targeted pilot of promotion and engagement activities to encourage increased use of major new or upgraded cycleways such as the Veloway 1.

Lead agency: Department of Transport and Main Roads

Status: Complete

Achievements

We produced videos promoting the North Brisbane Bikeway and the Veloway 1 (V1) to raise awareness and encourage people to use of these major cycleways.

The North Brisbane Bikeway video highlights the features of the cycleway and allows viewers to hear from community members who use the cycleway.

We released the video on 4 October 2022 via a social media. We also asked local bicycle user groups to share the video with their members and network. The campaign reached more than 146,000 people and the video has been viewed over 5000 times.

The V1 video takes viewers on a virtual tour of the V1 from South Brisbane through to MacGregor. The video includes an interactive map highlighting the entry/exit points along the route and nearby attractions such as public transport, schools, hospitals and shopping precincts.

We released the V1 virtual tour video in February 2024, supported by a promotional campaign to raise awareness of the bikeway and encourage people who live, work and study along the route to consider travelling by bicycle or personal mobility device such as an e-scooter.

Next steps

We will continue to look for opportunities to promote the videos to raise awareness of these facilities and encourage more residents and tourists to ride more often.
