Achievements

Brisbane’s state-controlled cycleways are enjoying a multi-million dollar facelift. We allocated $2.7 million to carry out works between 2017-18 and 2018-19 to ensure a safer, more comfortable ride for everyday users.

We have engaged with local councils, peak cycling bodies, bicycle user groups and bicycle riders to gain a better understanding of common maintenance issues and complaints. We have developed methods for inspecting and assessing the condition of cycleways.

We have started by delivering needed improvements on the Veloway 1, the Centenary Cycleway, and the Deagon Deviation and Ipswich Motorway shared paths in Brisbane. Actions include removal of obstructions, resurfacing and widening paths and upgrading safety fencing.

As well as a healthy way to get to work, our cycleways are heavily used for recreation.  These rehabilitation works help to ensure our cycleways can continue to be enjoyed safely by generations to come.

Next steps

Over the next 2 years, we will continue to rehabilitate and improve our existing off-road cycleways. We will also develop best practice guidance based on learnings from developing and implementing our multi-year program for rehabilitating our off-road cycleways.
