Engaging stakeholders in planning for cycling infrastructure

Overview

Action 1.7: Investigate and implement ways to ensure appropriate stakeholder consultation is undertaken for cycling infrastructure projects funded by the Queensland Government.

Lead agency: Department of Transport and Main Roads

Status: Complete

Achievements

We’ve engaged with key stakeholders across the state to understand how they are currently engaged to inform delivery of projects funded by the Active Transport Investment Program, and to identify opportunities for improvement.

We researched international, national and regional examples of best practice stakeholder engagement, and conducted telephone interviews, online surveys and a workshop to capture insights from representatives of the department, local governments, bicycle advocacy groups and other community stakeholders.

We used the research findings to develop a guide to support the department and local governments to engage with stakeholders when planning and developing cycling infrastructure.

Next steps

We will promote the guide to support the department and local governments to engage with stakeholders when planning and developing cycling infrastructure.
