Including cycling in regional transport planning

Overview

Action 1.26: Incorporate Principal Cycle Network Plans in strategic transport planning for regions and sub-regions to enable provision of cycling connections, network infrastructure and end-of-trip facilities.

Lead agency: Department of Transport and Main Roads

Status: Complete

Achievements

Incorporating cycle networks in the Regional Transport Plans is key for making sure current and future planning considers the needs of people riding bikes.

We have incorporated the Principal Cycle Network Plans into the Regional Transport Plans that will guide the planning of an efficient and responsive transport system in Queensland over the next 15 years.

We have worked with the Department of State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning to incorporate the South East Queensland Principal Cycle Network Plan into the South East Queensland Regional Plan 2017, also known as Shaping SEQ.

Next steps

We continue to improve access to the Principal Cycle Network Plans to support practitioners to consider the needs of bicycle riders. In 2017, we released mapping for the principal cycle network on Queensland Globe, an online interactive map that provides users with access to hundreds of spatial data layers.
