Overview

Action 1.22: Provide improved bicycle access and parking in delivery of new or upgraded public transport infrastructure.

Lead agency: Department of Transport and Main Roads

Status: Complete

Achievements

We improved bicycle access and parking at facilities across the public transport network. In particular, we worked with Queensland Rail to improve bicycle access and parking at park 'n' ride facilities across the passenger rail network.

From July 2020 to September 2022, we delivered over 200 bicycle parking spaces across 7 park 'n' ride facilities and bus station projects in South East Queensland.

In the same period, we delivered around 1.5km of new shared path and 420m of on-road bike lane as part of the Eastern Transitway bus priority project.

Next steps

  • We will continue to strategically plan and improve bicycle access and parking at public transport stations across Queensland through the Passenger Transport Infrastructure Investment Program.
  • When we plan and design for public transport upgrades, we will review existing bicycle access and infrastructure. If there is demand for new or improved bicycle parking, it will be included as part of the infrastructure upgrade.
