Principal Cycle Network Plans help ensure the needs of Queensland bike riders are considered in land use, transport planning and infrastructure delivery.

Overview

Action 1.29: Promote incorporation of Principal Cycle Network Plans in regional and local land use and transport planning to ensure needs of bicycle riders are considered.

Lead agency: Department of Transport and Main Roads

Status: Complete

Achievements

From September 2020 to September 2022, we responded to more than 800 requests to provide specialist bicycle planning and design advice on a wide range of projects and plans. For example, major road, rail and bus upgrades, new schools, local government planning schemes and Priority Development Area Plans.

We worked closely with other Queensland Government agencies and local governments to promote the Principal Cycle Network Plans and make sure bicycle riders' needs are considered in regional and local land use, and transport planning and infrastructure delivery.

Next steps

We will actively monitor regional and local land use, and transport planning projects located on and around the Principal Cycle Network and work with project partners to make sure they consider the needs of bicycle riders.
