Principal Cycle Network Plans identify key future links needed to encourage more people to ride in their communities.

Overview

Action 1.2: Update Principal Cycle Network Plans to respond to changing demand, land use and emerging opportunities.

Lead agency: Department of Transport and Main Roads.

Status: Carried forward to Queensland Cycling Action Plan 2023–2025.

Achievements

Principal Cycle Network Plans show the main bicycle routes needed to get more people riding more often and guide future planning and investment in Queensland's transport network.

To make sure the Principal Cycle Network Plans reflect current and future demand, land use and other opportunities, we are reviewing the current plans and expanding the principal cycle network to include a further 14 local government areas.

We asked the Queensland community to tell us about key future links to help them make the choice to ride in their communities. We are using the information they gave us to work with key stakeholders across Queensland, including local governments, to develop an updated and consolidated Queensland Principal Cycle Network Plans.

Next steps

Completion of this action has been carried forward to Action 1.4 in the Queensland Cycling Action Plan 2023–2025.

Through this action, we will work with key stakeholders to finalise a whole of Queensland Principal Cycle Network Plan.
