Technical guidelines have been centralised on the Transport and Main Roads website, with consistent formatting designed for better access.

Overview

Action 1.14: Improve access to and promote technical guidance to improve capability in planning and designing cycling infrastructure.

Lead agency: Department of Transport and Main Roads

Status: Complete

Achievements

We improved access to all of our technical guidelines on planning and designing cycling infrastructure. We have embedded consistent formatting and publishing techniques, reformatted historical publications and aligned our guidance with Austroads Guides.

To help raise awareness of the guidelines we promoted the guidance externally through the annual industry Cycling and Walking Technical Seminars together with the Australian Institute of Traffic Planning and Management, PedBikeTrans and other industry groups, usually as a part of Bike Week or Walk Month activities.

We also promoted it internally through our Engineering Innovation and Technology Forum, district roadshows and other internal events.

Next steps

To promote the newer technical guidance, we will submit abstracts to deliver presentations at relevant department events, industry conferences in Brisbane, and via online events.
