Grant funding supports more than 100 cycling infrastructure projects

Overview

Action 1.5: Allocate $47 million between 2019–20 and 2020–21 through the Active Transport Investment Program for delivery of the highest priority routes on the local government-controlled portions of the principal cycle network by providing grants for:

  • design and construction of cycling and supporting infrastructure
  • targeted promotion to boost cycling participation
  • planning to develop a pipeline of high priority projects.

Achievements

Through the Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program 2019–20 to 2022–23, we allocated $47 million between 2019–20 and 2020–21 to the Active Transport Investment Program for Cycle Network Local Government Grants.

We awarded grants funding to local government authorities across the state to deliver more than 100 new projects on Principal Cycle Network priority routes.

Projects included:

  • 99 design and/or construction projects
  • 3 Infra+ projects to promote recently constructed infrastructure
  • 6 planning projects.

Next steps

We will continue to offer grant funding to help local governments plan, deliver and promote cycling infrastructure on principal cycle routes.
